MUSEO DELLA MUSICA

The Museo della Musica is an exhibit dedicated to one of the artistic expressions that has contributed to the greatness of Italian culture: the making of stringed instruments.

Artemio Maestro Versari’s collection, “Antonio Vivaldi and His Time,” recounts the golden epoch of stringed instrument making in 18th century Venice: the studios or “schools” of Italian musical instrument making, the differences in design and construction, the manner in which they were made, and the evolution of musical style.

Venice, where the exhibit is situated, was a workshop for great makers of stringed instruments. Their excellent craftsmanship was evident in the experimentation and production of musical instruments, always perfectly responsive to the new requirements of the sonorities which came to define those times.

Hosted in the splendid Church of San Maurizio, the purpose of the Museo della Musica is for visitors to experience the sound of instruments - true works of art - by such makers as Amati, Guadagnini, and Goffriller, in an atmosphere steeped in beauty and history, creating a moment of absolute perfection.

The marvelous pieces of this collection take the visitor on a journey into the history of music.

... the Museo della Musica is a veritable jewel in the panorama of the city’s collections.
